Special Memories of Rogue

My daughter asked me to make an album for a friend of hers.
Her friend owns a yellow lab named "Rogue" that is currently undergoing Chemo treatments for cancer, and she wanted to be able to give her something to fill with fond memories of her beloved Rogue.

Rogue was named after a Comic Book Character from the Avenger's.  So the theme of the album is based on the style of a comic book, and the colors of the character (yellow, green, black and red).

My daughter edited a photo of Rogue for the cover and I used a font called "Avenger" for the title.  Here's what I came up with for the completed Album.

On the spine I added some dog related charms with a few tear drops and hearts.
My daughter will add more when she receives the album to finish it off.
I also added charms for the closure with a Lobster Clasp.

Opening the book:  Cover page 1 and Page 2 shown

Page 2 (on the right) has a large pocket for photo's and journal cards, and a cute dog house for tags to slide behind.  That's a photo of Rogue when she was a puppy tucked in the pocket now.
The cover page (left)  has a nice folio that opens for a small photo plus a pocket for tags which are blank on the back to write down memories.

It secures shut with a magnet.
The page also opens up to allow larger photo's to be placed inside.

On the left of the page there is a pull out photo matte for adding larger photo's.  I adhered a nice dog quote to one side.

Page 3 and 4 has a comic book page background and I filled it with tags.  I'm letting my daughter choose which to use throughout the album before she gives it to her friend.  A person can add photo stickers to the comic book background which would be cute and maybe some neat Notations to go with each.
Each page has photo mattes that pull out from the side.  I added one of Rogue when she was a puppy to one of the mattes shown here.   Wasn't Rogue just the cutest little puppy!
Ah! Adorable.
Sorry for some of these photo's coming out a bit blurry.  I seemed to be shaking a bit more today then usual.

These next two pages are my very favorite.  I did a night time layout and it turned out very nice - I just love it.
On the left side there is a pocket in the tower of the building with a tag.  The whole pc. is actually the flap that opens (see below)... and of course there is pull out photo mattes on both pages like before.

When the flap opens up there is this pretty pocket inside which holds a very moving quote that I found on Pinterest.  I think she'll love it.

On the right side of the page, the pocket opens up and there is room for more photo's to tuck in and it is held secure by a magnet.
Then this whole pocket pc. lifts up and the city background can be seen.  Photos can be added to the underside of the pocket by tucking them in behind the little BFF tab or just add more tags for jotting down  memories and some small photo's to the background.  Either way would be fun.
Oh, before I forget to tell you -- you can see these images larger  by just clicking on them.  I know it is kind of hard to see the detail in these smaller images.

The next two pages I went with the bright red and yellow color combo.

I printed all these papers out myself on card stock.  Some were free background images and other's I made myself.  All the tags were quotes I found on Pinterest that I thought would be appropriate for the album.
The left page has a slide out photo matte again and I went ahead and added Rogue with her best friend to one side of the matte.

The page has a nice big pocket as well as a smaller tab/pocket to tuck tags and smaller photo's behind.

The right side of the pages has a gate type flap that opens - again secured closed by a magnet.
There is a lot of room for photo's  (I added one of Rogue and her friend again to the right side), and a pocket to tuck even more photos in at the bottom center.
We finally come to the last page.
I decide to leave the inside of the back cover fairly blank.  I had a large quote that I was going to secure in place, but decided to let my daughter decide if she wanted it there or not.  So I just added a little tab at the top to tuck in small tags for now.
The left side opens up and is secured closed by magnet. (Love those magnets)

I have a pocket in the bottom flap that holds good sized tags or photo's and a large open area for a larger photo.

The back of the album I left plain other then adding a Lab embellishment to one corner.

The whole album measures 8" tall x 6" wide and has a total of 10 pages (counting inside and back covers).  I think the spine was about 2 1/4" and there is plenty of room left after adding the pages to still stuff in lots of photo's .

I didn't really go by any one tutorial on this album.  I kind of added various page's with pockets and flip outs that I had tried before.

What I've learned from this album is... Yellow, like White (unless it's a print) can show any speck of dirt very easily.  So I laid down paper towels every time I worked on this album.

I also learned that I need a die cut machine really bad.  I would have loved to design some "Big Power Comic Book Style" word elements to embellishment this album more.  A die cutter would be very handy and thus it is def. on my wish list.

Now to share some of my papers used in this album.  Click on the image to open in a larger window, then save.

London's Calling

I signed up to become a member of Club Scrap a few months back.  Each month I receive a wonderful little kit to play with.  Love getting my little box of goodies every month and browsing through the papers and extra's that comes included.

When I received my "London's Calling" kit, I had no idea what to make with it.  I never travel and have never known anyone personally who travels that much either (at least in my family - lol).  But.... as it turned out, my niece's job sent her to London the following month.  Perfect opportunity to make a mini photo album out of this wonderful collection.

So here is my second Mini to share.  Love Love Love  these papers in this set.

I decided to try a gatefold style.
I found it very difficult to get the front to latch so that the doors laid completely flat.
But I still love how this album came out.

I added Tim Holtz gears - and they actually rotate if you turn the bottom left one. : )

First page open
Viewing left side and Center.

The large photo is one of  the ones my niece took while in London.  I just printed it out and tucked it behind the words on the left.

The left side of the page opens and has a pocket for tucking in tags and little journal cards.

I used a magnet closure for this side.

The right side flap has some embellishments that holds more tags.

Going back to the center and next page I used more words to catch hold of tags, and journal cards.
The page above I added a pocket to the bottom half and punched a lacy border design.

I distress inked everything.

There is a pull out photo matt on the right side of this page.  You can kind of see the numbered tab in the photo.
Next page I made some diag. pockets and again used my punch to add some detail to the edge.
I only punched the center of these pockets as I wanted it to have a cut out look with a flat edge.

Going on to the last page, it flips up.
A magnet holds it closed.
Again another diag. pocket and a small card embellishment to hold tags, etc. on the upper page.

This was a really fun album to make.  And it feels so nice and sturdy.  Just like a hard back book.  I was really pleased with this one and can't wait to do another gate fold in the near future.

Story of a Boy - 9 Style!

As promised in my earlier post I am sharing one of my first albums.
This album was inspired by Shellye McDaniels Mini Album, along with the papers "suave-by-authentique".  You can find Shellye's example along with more images of these beautiful papers at " Authentique Paper Blog".
My inside pages were inspired by "The Story of a Boy" mini-album
 video/tutorial by "Super Happy Scrapper".

I Called this album "A Story of a Boy - K9 Style".
I made this album for a wonderful friend as a gift when her Cocker Spaniel  turned one year old.  It can store tons of photo's, so I'm hoping it will allow her to add those special photo's for many years to come.

Front View;
The cover was kind of plain.  Being it's my first album,
I hope to learn to embellish more with time and practice.

I used my punch for the top trim, printed a dog bone on card stock, doubled it, and then attached it to a tag which I also printed on my computer.  I punched a hole in the tag, and inserted a grommet - so that I could tie the album closed with a ribbon closure.

Peeking Inside

Places for (Human) Dad/Mom .
And inside a fold out which shows his K-9 family and a cluster of his baby photos.

Lots of pockets, tags, and journal cards,
along with folded cards inside of pockets and fold out pages.

Most the pages are basically the same style, with different papers and embellishments.

Each page set has a pull out photo mat for even more space for photo's
(you can see the tabs in the photo to the left-above).

The Back was left fairly plain.
But then, does a person really want to embellish the back that much?
I just added a nice quote along with a tiny label.
The video tutorial was  very good for beginners like myself. I would highly recommend it to anyone who is just starting out, or just wants to make a mini for their own.  I do feel that the ribbon closure was my biggest mistake.  It is hard to thread it through the little holes over and over.  So next time I use a ribbon closure it won't have to thread through the grommets.
